Description:

Many people know Jesus as Savior. But how many of us know Jesus as the Jewish Messiah, and how should his Jewishness affect our understanding of his life, his teachings and his ministry?

Many claim to have the market on the identity of Jesus. To the Gnostics Jesus was a ghostly dispenser of secret knowledge. To the unbelieving Jews he was a heretic. To Hollywood he was a cross between Ghandi and Obi-Wan Kenobi, and wore a blue sash on all occasions. To liberal theologians Jesus was a social activist. To many of our seminarians Jesus is likened unto a Greek philosopher. But in reality, Jesus was the Jewish Messiah of Israel. He was born into a Jewish home, was circumcised on the eighth day, spoke Hebrew and Aramaic, studied Torah, attended synagogue and taught in both the Temple and the synagogues, and participated in the Feasts of Israel. This two-part teaching attempts to help us rediscover the Jewishness of Jesus and understand how it should impact us as his disciples.
